FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What charger power should I choose to charge my electric car at home: 7.4, 11 or 22 kW?

It all comes down to your electricity supply: 7.4 kW suits a standard single-phase installation and covers most everyday driving, while 11 and 22 kW require a three-phase connection for faster charging. The right choice also depends on your vehicle's range and your subscribed power level, and we'll work it out with you in a free estimate prepared once the required technical information is available.

Reinforced socket or charging station: which is the better option at home?

A reinforced socket charges more slowly and is fine for light use, whereas a charging station (wallbox) delivers higher power, faster charging and greater safety thanks to its dedicated protective devices. For regular use, a wallbox is generally the recommended choice, and its installation follows the NF C 15-100 standard. We'll advise you on the right solution for your situation in the quote.

Can a charging station be installed in a flat or in a shared building?

Yes, installation is possible in a shared building thanks to the “right to a socket”, which allows an occupant to equip their parking space. The work must be carried out by an IRVE-qualified installer in line with the NF C 15-100 standard. Our teams operate throughout France via a network of IRVE-qualified partner installers who are QUALIFELEC IRVE accredited.

How does the “right to a socket” work in a shared building?

The “right to a socket” lets an owner or tenant request the installation of a charging station in their parking space by notifying the building manager through the set procedure. The installation must be compliant and carried out by an IRVE-qualified professional. We support you on the technical side of the project, with a free, no-obligation estimate prepared after a complete brief.

How long does it take to charge an electric car at home?

Charging time depends on the station's power, the battery's capacity and the power your vehicle can accept: the higher the power, the faster the charge. A 7.4, 11 or 22 kW station charges far more quickly than a standard socket. We size the installation to match your vehicle and your electrical setup.

What is smart or managed charging on a home charging station?

Managed charging lets you optimise when and how fast the charge happens, for example to make the most of off-peak hours or to avoid exceeding the available power. Load shedding, or dynamic power management, automatically adjusts the charge based on your home's consumption. We install solutions tailored to your usage and your electrical setup.

Do I need to increase my Linky meter’s power to install a charging station?

Not always: it depends on the power you've subscribed to and how much your home is using while charging. A managed station with load shedding can avoid an upgrade by adapting the charge to the available power. As part of the quote, we check your installation and tell you which solution suits you best.

Tethered cable or Type 2 socket: which should I choose?

A station with a tethered cable is more convenient day to day because the cable is always ready to use, while a Type 2 (T2) socket station lets you use your own cable and keeps things versatile. The choice comes down to your comfort of use and your vehicle. We'll point you towards the option that fits best in a free quote prepared after a complete brief.

Is the ADVENIR grant available to individuals for installing a charging station?

The ADVENIR grant can apply to individuals, subject to the applicable scale and eligibility, particularly for certain installations in collective housing. The award conditions change over time, which is why we go over the details with you when assessing your project. Get in touch on 09 55 92 66 32 or at contact@volticom.fr to talk it through.

Is home charging station installation safe and guaranteed?

Yes: our stations are installed by QUALIFELEC IRVE installers, in line with the NF C 15-100 standard, with AXA insurance and a decennial liability insurance policy with AXA, subject to the declared activities, limits and terms of the current insurance certificate. Installation duration is confirmed after the site assessment, and our after-sales team stays responsive if needed. The quote is free, with no obligation, and prepared after a complete brief.
